What I like about working at Adana is getting to know the cats in boarding. Each cat has a different personality and I love seeing them open up as they become comfortable in their new setting. Finding out what works and what doesn’t work for every cat has been a great learning experience for me in caring for animals, and I love having a job where I get to learn more every day about what I’m interested in.
My dog Pokey is a pug/beagle mix (a.k.a. puggle) adopted by my family in 2015 from the Tompkins County SPCA. She’s a senior dog at 15 and a half years old, but she is full of so much life and energy that people have asked if she is a puppy! Her favorite pastime is eating – she likes to pick up anything she can find on the side of the road, especially cardboard and paper. Some of the strangest things she has eaten include: a whole loaf of freshly-baked bread, part of a duraflame log, someone’s business card, and a bag of candy (wrappers included). Luckily, she has a very strong stomach and hasn’t needed any emergency trips to the vet because of her eating habits!
I like to spend my spare time out in nature as much as I can, going for walks and observing the wildlife. I like to paint and in the warmer months. I will take my art supplies outside with me to paint somewhere in the shade. I also enjoy baking and cooking, which I often do together with my roommate. In the spring we’re planning to start a garden together, where we can grow vegetables and herbs to use in our cooking and baking projects.
